Teacher Moves and Knowledge in Preparing Students for General Certificate of Education Examination

This study investigated an experienced teacher’s moves in preparing high school students for end of year certificate examination. Six consecutive lessons taught by this teacher were observed and videotaped the second term 2020/2021 academic year. These transcribed coded as well knowledge deployed any moves. First, two researchers independently agreed on them. Second, interviews used to obtain justification used. Third, Ball, Thames Phelps’s (2008) categorizations mathematical teaching was determine which motivated move. Results revealed that teacher, Ngwa, a pseudonym, following moves: reading through all topics identify key concepts connections between among them, connecting ideas from one topic another, returning previous chapters or units review ideas, reinforce understanding modifying problems, adoption/adaptations extension problems generate use more withdrawal creation space interaction, announcing advertising what will be learned next lesson, learners designing their own questions class engage with. The findings also structure examination might form specialized content it drives teaching. In addition, learning found forward backward learners.
